But how can being an Umpire help your personal development?
It isn’t as daunting as you might think - there are different skill levels that you can work your way through and there is lots of support, with opportunities to observe some games and watch experienced umpires in the company of another umpire so that you can discuss decision making whilst watching the game.
Step 1
Register (for free) on the England Hockey website by clicking this link.
Step 2
Use the free online rules quiz to check/improve your knowledge and test yourself. You can save your progress and complete it in stages.
Step 3
After completing the rules test you can choose to do the Level 1 umpires course.
There are lots of dates available (check them here) and it is completed as a two-hour Zoom evening session (19.30 to 21.30).
Step 4
After some practice, and when you feel ready, we can assess you to become a Level 1 assessed umpire.
NOTHING, if you umpire for the club!
Initial outlay for the Level 1 umpire course is £30 and we'll give you that back once you've umpired your first match.
